I have been trying to get a neon animated line to work. I tried using then effects that after effects has shipped with but they seem to be lacking. I then found a tutorial for using this third party plug in from http://www.trapcode.com/download.html its called Particular. This seem to be a much more powerfull particle generator and you can use lights as emitters which is what I was after. I then found this tutorial on how to do it exactly http://library.creativecow.net/articles/kramer_andrew/nano.php See below for the test render.
I am going to constrain the light particle emitter to and path around a piece of text, and maybe try and get some fade out going on.
